Why Ex-Royal Marines Train at Our Academy

What serving and former UK special forces come to our range for, and what they cannot legally practise at home.

We do not name-drop our clients. What follows is a composite picture, drawn from dozens of conversations with serving and former UK military shooters who train with us privately β€” Royal Marines, Paras, Army infantry, and a handful of UKSF.

The common thread is simple: the UK civilian environment cannot keep their skills sharp. Poland can.

What is missing in the UK

Leaving service, a UK operator goes from a world of unlimited live ammunition, dynamic drills and force-on-target rehearsals to a world of static lane shooting on an SGC or, with patience and a club, an FAC for a bolt rifle or .22 self-loader. Pistols are gone. CQB is gone. Holster draws are gone. Force-on-force is gone.

Most cope by joining a club, shooting clays, or running practical rifle on the few civilian ranges that allow it. None of that maintains the perishable skills they spent a decade building.

    What they actually book here

In a typical 2-day private package with us, an ex-Royal Marine will work:

    • Pistol β€” [Glock 17](/shoot-glock-poland), 300+ rounds, holster draws, single and double hits, transitions, reloads under time pressure, weak-hand.
    • Carbine β€” AR15 at 25–300 m, kneeling and prone positional, barricade work, malfunction drills, pistol-carbine transitions.
    • CQB block β€” single-room entries in our shoothouse, then linked rooms, then two-man stacks. Live ammunition, paper and steel.
    • Night-vision lane (optional) β€” PVS-14 familiarisation, IR laser zero, low-light transitions.

None of this requires a Polish firearms licence. Veterans bring no kit, no paperwork, and no questions from their UK FEO.

Why our coaches understand the brief

Our instructor team includes former Polish GROM and JWK operators. The vocabulary is shared, the standards are honest, and nobody is impressed by service stories. You get coaching, not theatre.

    The format that works

    • 2-day private for skills maintenance, run quarterly.
    • Small-group reunion weekends for ex-unit groups (4–8 shooters).
    • Pre-deployment refreshers for contractors heading to high-risk environments β€” discreet, focused, no photos.

If any of this fits, get in touch. We will pair you with the right coach and build the days around your actual training gaps.
