.308 Win vs .223 Rem vs 6.5 Creedmoor vs .338 Lapua

.308 sits in the middle: far more energy than .223, a little less flat than 6.5 Creedmoor at extreme range, and much softer to shoot than .338 Lapua Magnum. That balance is why it stayed the reference sniper and hunting cartridge for decades.

    Everything about .308 Win

Is .308 Win the same as 7,62×51 NATO?

Almost. Both use a .308 in bullet and the same outside case dimensions. Military 7,62×51 brass is often thicker and pressures are measured differently, so the two are close cousins rather than exact copies.

In practice most modern rifles chambered in .308 Win handle 7,62×51 NATO ammunition safely, but you should always follow the rifle maker's instructions. At our range your instructor chooses the right ammunition for every rifle.

    Why is .308 so popular?

It is accurate, powerful and forgiving. A heavy .308 bullet carries a lot of energy and stays stable in wind better than lighter calibers, while recoil remains manageable for most shooters.

It also fits into short rifle actions, so .308 rifles are compact and well balanced. That is why armies, police units and hunters around the world have used it for more than 70 years.

What does .308 feel like to shoot?

You feel a firm push into the shoulder, clearly stronger than an AR15 in .223 but far from painful. With a good stance, a bipod and a muzzle brake, beginners shoot .308 comfortably on their first day.

The real reward is precision: hitting steel targets at distance with a scoped bolt-action rifle is one of the most satisfying experiences on a range.
