Why Shoot the Steyr AUG Bullpup in Poland?

The Steyr AUG is the rifle that made the bullpup famous. Adopted by the Austrian army in 1977 as the StG 77, it was decades ahead of its time: a polymer body, an integrated optic, a quick-change barrel and a translucent magazine — all in a rifle shorter than most carbines but with a full-length barrel.

Its bullpup layout puts the action and magazine behind the pistol grip. The weight sits against your shoulder, so the muzzle stays remarkably steady when you shoot standing, and the rifle points and moves like something much smaller. The AUG also has a progressive trigger and a cross-bolt safety — details that feel completely different from an AR15 or AK.

On the line, the session starts with a safety brief and the bullpup manual of arms, then a confirmed zero at 25 metres. You build groups standing at 25–50 metres, move to reactive steel at 100–200 metres, and practise the rear-magazine reload with your instructor beside you for every string. Supported prone fire runs out to 300 metres.

Most visitors book the AUG alongside an AR15 or the Polish MSBS Grot to feel bullpup against conventional layout in one afternoon. Few ranges in Europe let a visitor shoot the AUG without a licence — in Poland you can.

    FAQ

    Steyr AUG — Common Questions

Can I shoot a Steyr AUG in Poland as a tourist?

Yes. Polish law allows non-residents to shoot any firearm at a licensed range under instructor supervision. No firearms licence, no FAC, no permit — a valid ID or passport is all you need.

    What is the Steyr AUG?

The Steyr AUG (Armee-Universal-Gewehr) is the Austrian bullpup assault rifle introduced in 1977 as the StG 77. With its green polymer stock, integrated optic and magazine behind the pistol grip, it became one of the most iconic rifles in the world and served with Austria, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand and many others.

    What is a bullpup rifle?

A bullpup places the action and magazine behind the trigger, in the stock. You get a full-length rifle barrel in a weapon much shorter than a normal carbine, with weight centred on your shoulder for a very steady hold.

How much does a Steyr AUG session cost?

Rifle rental is 320 PLN per day (around 75 €), 100 rounds of 5.56 is 300 PLN (around 70 €) and a private instructor is 425 PLN per hour (around 100 €). A one-hour taster with 100 rounds is about 1045 PLN (around 245 €). Instructor and gun rental included, no hidden fees.

Is the AUG hard to shoot for a beginner?

No. Recoil in 5.56 is mild and the bullpup balance makes the rifle very stable. The only new skill is the reload behind the grip, and your instructor coaches it from the first magazine.

How far can I shoot it?

Our rifle line runs reactive steel out to 300 m — far beyond what most civilian ranges in Western Europe allow.

How do I get to the range?

We are in Pawłów (49-300), Opolskie, about 45 minutes from Wrocław Airport. A LUXCAB taxi transfer is around 250 złoty; details on the trip planning page.

Can left-handed shooters use the AUG?

Tell us when you book. Bullpups eject close to the face, so your instructor will set the rifle up and position you correctly before the first shot.

Can I shoot the AUG and the MSBS Grot in the same visit?

Yes — the Austrian bullpup against the Polish service rifle, both in 5.56, is a great comparison. Add a Glock 17 to cover pistol too.

How many rounds should I book?

100 rounds of 5.56 (300 PLN, around 70 €) covers zero, standing groups and steel. For distance work to 200–300 m, book 150 or more.
