Why Shoot a Smith & Wesson 629 .44 Magnum in Poland?

The Smith & Wesson 629 is the stainless-steel version of the Model 29 — the revolver that made the .44 Magnum famous. Six rounds in a swing-out cylinder, a double-action/single-action trigger and a frame built to take full-power magnum loads all day.

A revolver shoots differently from any semi-automatic. There is no slide moving and no gas system: every bit of the .44 Magnum recoil comes straight back into your hands and the muzzle rises hard. It is loud, honest and deeply satisfying, and cocking the hammer for a single-action shot is a moment every visitor remembers.

For a European visitor, a magnum revolver is almost impossible to shoot at home. Centrefire handguns are effectively banned for UK civilians, and licensing in France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain and Ireland keeps them out of reach of casual shooters. In Poland, a visitor with photo ID can shoot one on the day under instructor supervision, with no permit.

Sessions run one instructor per shooter: loading and unloading the cylinder, grip and stance for magnum recoil, single-action shots on paper at 7 metres, double-action work, then reactive steel.

    FAQ

    Smith & Wesson 629 — Common Questions

Can I shoot a Smith & Wesson 629 in Poland without a licence?

Yes. Polish law lets visitors shoot any firearm at a licensed range under instructor supervision. No firearms licence, no FAC, no permit — you only need a valid ID or passport.

How much does it cost to shoot the S&W 629?

.44 Magnum ammunition is 12,00 PLN per round — instructor and gun rental included, no hidden fees. Two cylinders (12 rounds) is a good taster; most visitors take around 30.

Is it the Dirty Harry gun?

Harry Callahan carried the Smith & Wesson Model 29. The 629 is the same revolver in stainless steel, chambered in the same .44 Magnum.

How much does a Smith & Wesson 629 cost to buy?

New in the USA, roughly $1,000 to $1,500 depending on the version, with Performance Center models higher. In Europe, where it is available to licensed owners, expect around €1,500 to €2,500.

Revolver or Desert Eagle — which kicks more?

Same cartridge, different feel. The 629 gives a sharper kick and more muzzle rise; the heavier gas-operated Desert Eagle gives a longer push. You can shoot both in the same visit.

Is the recoil manageable for a first-time shooter?

Yes, with proper technique. Your instructor sets your grip and stance before the first round, and you start in single action at 7 metres.

How do I get to the range?

We are in Pawłów (49-300), Opolskie, about 45 minutes from Wrocław Airport. A LUXCAB taxi transfer is around 250 złoty; details on the trip planning page.

How many rounds should I book?

Two cylinders (12 rounds) is a proper taster. Thirty rounds lets you try single action, double action and steel.

Can I shoot it on the same day as a rifle?

Yes. A 629 block fits easily into a day with an AR15, an AK47 or a full-auto package.

Do I get photos of my session?

Yes. You keep your targets and we take photos and short video clips during the session at no extra charge.
