Shoot a CZ Shadow 2 — Why Competition Shooters Love It
The CZ Shadow 2 is the IPSC favourite. Why, how it feels and when to choose it over a Glock.
If you walk an IPSC Production stage in Europe, the most common pistol on the line is the CZ Shadow 2. It has dominated the division for years — and once you shoot one back to back with a [Glock 17](/shoot-glock-poland), you understand why.
What makes it different
- All-steel frame — heavier than a Glock (1.3 kg vs 0.9 kg). Soaks recoil. Tracks flat.
- DA/SA hammer-fired — heavy first shot, light single-action follow-ups
- Aggressive checkering on the front and back straps and grips
- Long sight radius — easier to call shots precisely
- Capacity: 17 rounds of 9 mm
How it feels back-to-back with a Glock
The Glock is point-and-shoot — same trigger every time, light frame, lively recoil. The Shadow 2 is a precision instrument — heavier, flatter, with a glassy single-action trigger after the first DA shot. Group sizes shrink. Splits between shots get faster. Most shooters surprise themselves on their first magazine.
When to choose it over a Glock
- You are working on shot calling and trigger control
- You want to feel how the flat-tracking of a heavy frame changes recovery between shots
- You are interested in IPSC, USPSA or steel competition
- You already know your way around a pistol and want a fresh challenge
A typical Shadow 2 session
- Brief + dry trigger work (DA vs SA decocking) — 15 min
- Lane work at 7 m — 30 rounds
- Bill drills (six shots, fastest acceptable group) — 30 rounds
- Steel plate work at 7–15 m — 40 rounds
- Mini competition stage (optional) — 50 rounds
Prices
- Shadow 2 taster — 50 rounds: €70
- Shadow 2 half day — 100 rounds + steel: €110
- Shadow 2 vs Glock 17 back-to-back — €120
