Shoot an AR15 in Europe — The Rifle UK Civilians Can't Own

AR15 platform deep-dive: legality across Europe, what you fire here, distances, calibres and optics.

The AR15 is the most-produced rifle platform in the West and the standard pattern behind every NATO service carbine (M4, M16, HK416, L85 derivatives use different operating systems but the same family of cartridges). For UK civilians, owning a self-loading centrefire AR15 is illegal — full stop. In most of continental Europe it requires a Category A or B licence with strict justification.

In Poland, on a commercial range, you can shoot one in 5.56 NATO with an instructor, with no licence, the same week you book.

    What we run

    • AR15 in 5.56 NATO (.223 Remington pressure)
    • 16" barrel, mid-length gas
    • Red dot (Aimpoint pattern) and a fixed 4× optic option
    • 30-round magazines
    • Adjustable stock to fit any shooter

What you can do with it here

    • 25–100 m lane shooting
    • Reactive steel at 100, 200 and 300 m
    • Positional drills — kneeling, prone, urban prone, barricade
    • Reloads on the clock
    • Pistol-rifle transitions
    • CQB block in the shoothouse (optional add-on)

Legality across Europe — short version

    • UK: Civilians cannot own a self-loading centrefire AR15.
    • Germany: Sport-shooter licence (WBK) required, semi-auto only, strict storage.
    • France: Cat. B licence, semi-auto only.
    • Czech Republic: One of the most permissive in EU.
    • Poland: Sport-shooter licence available; commercial range use (what we do) requires no licence for the visitor.

    A typical AR15 session

    • Brief + dry handling — 15 min
    • Zero confirmation at 25 m — 10 rounds
    • Lane work + transitions at 50 m — 40 rounds
    • Steel at 100 and 200 m — 50 rounds
    • Positional shooting from 100 m — 30 rounds

    Prices

    • AR15 taster — 30 rounds: €70
    • AR15 half day — 80 rounds + steel: €120
    • Combine (AR15 + Glock): €130
    • AR15 in a full day with precision rifle add-on: €220
